Sheikha Bibi honored in London for preserving Kuwait’s traditional craft of Sadu weaving

Culture is a collective creation, and preserving it is a shared responsibility -- Sheikha Bibi

Kuwait’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Bader Al-Munaikh, said the recognition of Sheikha Bibi Duaij Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwait Sadu Society, by the London Arabia Foundation is a testament to the enduring significance of Kuwait’s authentic crafts and cultural heritage.

Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) during the foundation’s 11th annual awards ceremony held last Thursday, Ambassador Al-Munaikh expressed deep pride in Sheikha Bibi’s achievement, which honors nearly a decade of her outstanding contributions to preserving and promoting Kuwait’s traditional heritage through exhibitions, educational initiatives, and international cultural programs.

“This award,” Ambassador Al-Munaikh said, “highlights the value of authentic Kuwaiti crafts and reflects the important role they play in shaping our national identity. We fully support all efforts aimed at showcasing Kuwait’s rich cultural heritage on global platforms, as these initiatives enhance international cultural exchange and foster mutual understanding among nations.”

He added, “The Embassy of the State of Kuwait takes great pride in the impactful work of the Kuwait Sadu Society under Sheikha Bibi’s leadership. We remain committed to our collaboration with the Society, as part of our broader mission to promote Kuwaiti heritage through our cultural programming.”

Ambassador Al-Munaikh also recalled the 2024 cooperation agreement signed between the State of Kuwait and the King Charles Foundation, aimed at sharing expertise and traditional craftsmanship. Through this partnership, the Kuwait Sadu Society has provided valuable technical and cultural knowledge about the art of Sadu weaving, one of Kuwait’s most cherished heritage traditions.

For her part, Sheikha Bibi stated, “Culture is a collective creation, and preserving it is a shared responsibility.” She paid tribute to the other recipients of the award, noting that “these remarkable women have achieved outstanding success across a range of fields, united by a common purpose: to elevate and empower Arab women.”
