Saudi Arabia backs historic Gaza disarmament deal announced by Trump

Saudi Arabia has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a landmark agreement on the disarmament of armed groups in the Gaza Strip, describing it as an important step toward ending the conflict and advancing a comprehensive peace process.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised President Trump’s leadership and commitment, saying his efforts played a significant role in reaching the agreement.

The Kingdom also expressed appreciation to Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, the United States, the Peace Council, and all regional and international partners whose diplomatic efforts contributed to the breakthrough.

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its commitment to the implementation of the comprehensive peace plan endorsed by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 2803, stressing the importance of close coordination with regional and international partners to ensure the agreement is fully implemented.

The ministry emphasized that all phases of the agreement should be carried out within an agreed timeframe in a reliable, final and irreversible manner to ensure lasting stability.

The Kingdom also reiterated its support for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, the deployment of an international stabilization force, and the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance and reconstruction support to the Palestinian people.

Saudi Arabia stressed that the return of the Palestinian Authority to administer the Gaza Strip, while preserving the unity of the occupied Palestinian territories, is essential for the successful implementation of the peace plan and for achieving long-term regional stability.

The Kingdom further said the agreement should serve as the foundation for a broader political process leading to a comprehensive settlement that guarantees the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state living peacefully alongside Israel on the basis of mutual recognition.

The statement concluded by reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s position that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through a comprehensive political settlement that ends the conflict and promotes security, stability and shared prosperity for all peoples of the region.
