Riyadh to lead talks on ‘two-state solution’ amid Gaza, Lebanon crisis

The Kingdom will host a joint Arab-Islamic follow-up summit on November 11 to address the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, along with recent developments in the region.

Saudi Foreign Minister His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan condemned Israels actions in Gaza as genocide, stating, We will do whatever is necessary for a ceasefire and emphasized that establishing the State of Palestine is crucial for relations with Israel, reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to a two-state solution.

UNRWA Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini described the Gaza Strip as being subjected to systematic destruction, calling for ensuring the continuation of the agencys work in the Palestinian territories” and cautioned that what is happening in the West Bank and Gaza distances us from the two-state solution.

 

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, held a meeting with His Highness Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, Crown Prince of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as reported by Al Anba newspaper.

The official Saudi Press Agency (WAS) stated that during the meeting, the brotherly relations between the two countries and their peoples, as well as issues of common interest, were reviewed.

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman also met with Senegalese President Passiro Diomay Faye and Pakistani Prime Minister Mohamed Shahbaz Sharif. During these meetings, they discussed bilateral relations and opportunities for joint cooperation in various fields, according to WAS.

Additionally, the first high-level meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution was launched in Riyadh on Wednesday, with participation from diplomats and envoys of several countries, as well as regional and international organizations.

This two-day meeting aims to establish a specific timetable for the construction and implementation of a Palestinian state and the “two-state solution,” providing practical steps to support UN efforts and peace endeavors to establish an independent Palestinian state and end the Israeli occupation.

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister, announced an Arab-Islamic summit to discuss the situation in Lebanon and Gaza. In press statements made on the sidelines of the meeting, he stated, “We reject the genocide carried out by Israel in Gaza,” and added, “We will do whatever is necessary for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.”

He emphasized that the establishment of the State of Palestine is a fundamental condition for establishing relations with Israel, reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to a “two-state solution.” Bin Farhan also expressed the Kingdom’s support for the Palestinian Refugee Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

In this context, the Saudi Press Agency (WAS) reported that, based on the generous directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and in continuation of the efforts exerted by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in coordination with his brothers, the leaders of the brotherly Arab and Islamic countries, the Kingdom calls for holding a joint Arab-Islamic follow-up summit in the Kingdom on 9 Jumada I 1446 AH, corresponding to 11 November 2024 AD. The summit will discuss the continuation of Israeli aggression in the Palestinian territories and the Lebanese Republic, as well as current developments in the region.

For his part, UNRWA Commissioner Philippe Lazzariniwarned that “the Palestinian economy is on the verge of collapse” and that the West Bank is heading for a dangerous escalation. In a speech at the meeting, he stated that “Israeli laws will exacerbate the suffering of the Palestinians” and accused Israel of waging a “campaign to undermine our work.”

He described the Gaza Strip as being subjected to systematic destruction, calling for “ensuring the continuation of the agency’s work in the Palestinian territories.” He cautioned that “what is happening in the West Bank and Gaza distances us from the two-state solution.”

The Ministerial Contact Group, which includes the League of Arab States, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, the European Union, and Norway, is participating in this meeting.
