Passengers onboard an IndiGo flight were evacuated after a power bank reportedly caught fire inside the aircraft, according to Indian media reports on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly took place while the aircraft was preparing for departure, prompting cabin crew to initiate emergency evacuation procedures as smoke spread inside the cabin.
The fire originated from a passenger’s power bank, which allegedly overheated and ignited onboard. Cabin crew members responded quickly and brought the situation under control before emergency evacuation measures were carried out.
All passengers and crew members were reported safe, with no major injuries immediately confirmed.
Videos and images circulating on social media showed passengers exiting the aircraft using emergency procedures while airport emergency teams responded to the scene.
The airline has not yet released detailed information regarding the cause of the incident, while authorities are expected to review onboard safety protocols related to lithium battery devices and power banks carried by passengers.
Incidents involving overheating lithium batteries and portable charging devices have raised growing safety concerns globally, leading many airlines to tighten rules on carrying and using power banks during flights.
Further investigations into the incident are underway.
