Poland-Kuwait ties mark steady growth and deepening friendship: Ambassador Cholewa

The Polish Ambassador to Kuwait, HE Michał Cholewa, said the relations between Poland and Kuwait are experiencing continuous growth across political, economic, and cultural levels.

Speaking during a reception hosted by the Polish Embassy on the occasion of Poland’s National Day (Constitution Day) — attended by dignitaries including Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Al-Jaber, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense Dr. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah, and Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affairs Ambassador Sadeq Ma’arafi, ambassadors, diplomats, and friends of Poland in Kuwait – the Polish envoy praised what he described as a “true friendship” between the two nations and a fruitful collaboration in multiple areas.

Ambassador Cholewa said, “We are very pleased with the positive momentum in Polish-Kuwaiti relations,” pointing to the recent round of political consultations held in Kuwait and the meeting between the President of Poland and the Prime Minister of Kuwait earlier this year.

Ambassador Cholewa emphasized that political dialogue between the two nations continues to gather strength, particularly as Poland and Kuwait jointly preside over the EU-GCC Councils. He highlighted their mutual alignment on critical global issues, such as the respect for sovereignty, peaceful conflict resolution, and commitment to international law.

Saying the economic dimension of the relationship is equally promising, Ambassador Cholewa expressed pride in the growing volume of trade and investment between the two countries and stressed that Poland stands ready to contribute to Kuwait’s Vision 2035. Polish expertise in agricultural technology, construction, IT, medicine, and pharmaceuticals offers avenues for deeper cooperation, he said.

Beyond government and business, the ambassador spotlighted vibrant people-to-people connections. In June, direct flights between Kuwait and Kraków will resume via Jazeera Airways, with frequency increasing to three weekly flights due to rising demand.

Meanwhile, Polish students have returned to Kuwait University to study Arabic, and Kuwaiti professionals are being welcomed to the Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia under a new training program.

Amidst the festivities, Ambassador Cholewa took a moment to reflect on Poland’s legacy. He recalled the significance of the May 3rd Constitution of 1791 — a pivotal document in European history and the first written constitution in Europe, second only to the U.S. Constitution.

“Poland is currently experiencing one of the most successful periods in its political and economic history,” he said. “Our strategic goal is to continue building constructive partnerships with countries like Kuwait to ensure peace and prosperity through a rules-based international order.”

The ambassador also noted a special historical milestone — the 1,000th anniversary of the coronation of Poland’s first king, Bolesław the Brave. “It’s a reminder of Poland’s long-standing place in the world,” he said, adding, “Despite the challenges the world faces, we know that, as the Arab proverb says, true friendship is priceless — and that’s what we have with Kuwait.”

The evening ended in a festive atmosphere with Polish music performances, a culinary showcase featuring traditional dishes such as pierogi and fudge, and a display of Polish-branded products. Guests also explored a special exhibition of military equipment and vehicles, showcasing Poland’s industrial and defense manufacturing capabilities.

In every detail of the celebration, from the cultural displays to diplomatic speeches, the message was clear: Poland and Kuwait are not just partners — they are friends building a shared future.
