Municipality cracks down on illegal charity headquarters in residential areas

Kuwait Municipality has intensified its inspection campaigns across all six governorates to evacuate private and model residential homes being used unlawfully as headquarters for charitable associations and foundations.

Meshari Al-Turkait, Head of the Engineering Audit and Follow-up Team in Hawalli Governorate, announced Monday that the municipality has identified more than 200 such violations throughout the country. These properties were found to be in breach of regulations by hosting non-residential activities in areas designated exclusively for private housing, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Turkait noted that the inspection teams have contacted the violators, instructing them to vacate the premises immediately. He praised the prompt cooperation shown by many charity committee owners, who acted swiftly to comply with the directive.

In Hawalli, the team recorded 17 violations, issuing warnings to seven properties, while the others were vacated voluntarily and without delay.

Additionally, the team is working to remove illegal signage and awnings from these residences and will continue inspections in the coming days to ensure full compliance.

Al-Turkait emphasized that legal action will be taken against any parties failing to adhere to the rules, stating that the Municipality will not tolerate violations of zoning laws.

This campaign is being conducted in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. (206/2009), which strictly prohibits the use of buildings in private and model residential zones for any purpose other than private housing. The Municipality is enforcing this resolution to preserve the integrity and intended function of residential neighborhoods.
