MPW seeks 4.75 million dinars budget increase for South Surra roads project
The Ministry of Public Works has requested an additional 4.75 million dinars to support the budget of a major infrastructure project in South Surra, according to data released by the State Audit Bureau.
The funding request relates to Contract No. HT/257, which covers the construction, completion, and maintenance of roads, bridges, rainwater drainage systems, sewage networks, and related infrastructure services in the South Surra area.
The State Audit Bureau confirmed that the request is currently being reviewed as part of its pre-audit procedures, a mandatory oversight process conducted before any decision is taken on budget amendments involving public expenditure.
The contract includes key infrastructure works along several major traffic corridors, including Damascus Street, the Fifth Ring Road, and King Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Road. These routes serve densely populated residential neighborhoods and commercial districts and experience significant daily traffic volumes.
Sources familiar with the project described it as one of the most important infrastructure developments in South Surra, aimed at enhancing transportation networks and upgrading essential public services in the area.
Officials noted that requests to increase project budgets are a standard mechanism used in government projects when additional funding is required to ensure timely implementation and uninterrupted progress, subject to approvals and oversight requirements stipulated under public finance regulations.
The State Audit Bureau is expected to complete its technical and financial assessment of the request before issuing its decision in accordance with established regulatory and supervisory frameworks.
