MoSA issues 30-day deadline for coops to end services of staff aged 70 and above
The Ministry of Social Affairs has issued directives to cooperative societies across Kuwait to terminate the employment of all staff aged 70 years and above, as part of efforts to accelerate Kuwaitization and create more job opportunities for Kuwaiti nationals.
The directive, issued by the ministry’s Financial and Administrative Affairs and Cooperative Affairs Sector, instructs cooperatives to complete the termination process while ensuring affected employees receive all their legal financial and employment benefits.
According to an official source, cooperative societies have been given 30 days from the date of the circular to implement the decision.
They are also required to submit a list of employees whose services have been terminated in compliance with the directive.
The ministry said the move is part of its broader strategy to increase the employment of Kuwaiti nationals in supervisory and support positions within cooperative societies by opening vacancies for qualified young Kuwaitis.
The decision also aims to reorganize staffing structures and address appointments that were allegedly made in previous years based on electoral considerations or personal relationships within some cooperative boards, with the goal of strengthening transparency, fairness and equal employment opportunities.
The ministry said the measure forms part of ongoing reforms to improve the efficiency and governance of Kuwait’s cooperative sector while supporting the government’s national workforce policy.
