• The train will travel at a speed of 500 kilometers per hour and can accommodate 3,300 passengers.

A rail link connecting Kuwait and Saudi Arabia is set to become a reality, with plans for its implementation in 2026.

The Higher Steering Committee overseeing the project has approved the results of a comprehensive feasibility study covering financial, economic, technical, and social aspects of the rail link.

The study explored both passenger and freight transportation capabilities.

A government source revealed to Al-Qabas newspaper that the initial design phase of the project is on the horizon, with the necessary procedures nearing completion.

Global companies will be invited to contribute to this crucial stage. The source emphasized that the actual construction is slated to commence in 2026.

Extensive collaboration between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia has been evident through reciprocal visits, meetings, and site inspections.

These efforts have been instrumental in identifying potential obstacles and developing strategies to overcome them.

The proposed high-speed train will cover the approximately 500-kilometer distance between the two countries in just one hour and forty minutes, offering a travel speed of 500 kilometers per hour.

The source indicated that the train will operate six round trips daily, with a capacity to accommodate 3,300 passengers.

Affordability is a key focus, as the source highlighted that ticket prices will be affordable.

The project is expected to be a catalyst for sustainable development, enhancing integration between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and stimulating economic growth.

“We share a common desire to accelerate this vital project,” the source stated, emphasizing its importance in boosting trade and strengthening bilateral relations.

While the Kuwaiti-Saudi rail link is a standalone project, the source mentioned that the initial route will connect Shadadiyah in Kuwait to the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The entire project is anticipated to be completed within four years.

The Council of Ministers has issued directives to the Ministry of Public Works and other relevant authorities to expedite the project and provide regular progress reports.

This significant undertaking is part of a broader initiative to strengthen economic ties and build upon the deep historical relationship between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
