Kuwait reduces retirement age for judges to 65

The Supreme Judicial Council appointed Dr. Omar Al-Masoud as Public Prosecutor and reinstated Abdullah Al-Sanea as a counselor at the Court of Appeal, following his transfer from Senior Public Prosecutor.

The Supreme Judicial Council approved a proposal to lower the retirement age for judges from 70 to 65. After reaching 65, judges’ mandates can be extended annually with the approval of both the council and the Minister of Justice, reported Arabic daily Al Qabas.

The sources explained that this approval comes based on a Ministry of Justice project that will include members of the Fatwa and Legislation Department if implemented.

The sources also revealed that the Judicial Council had agreed to reinstate Counselor Abdullah Al-Sanea as a counselor at the Court of Appeal, after approving his transfer from his position as Senior Public Prosecutor.

The council also approved the appointment of Counselor Dr. Omar Al-Masoud, head of the Fifth Criminal Circuit at the Court of Appeal and head of the Investigation Committee for the Trial of Ministers, as Public Prosecutor at the Public Prosecution. Al-Masoud’s last position in the Public Prosecution was Chief Prosecutor.
