Kuwait opens its ‘First Sleep Medicine Centre’

The Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, and the Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, inaugurated ‘Kuwait’s First Sleep Medicine Center’ today, Thursday.
The center, established with support from the National Cooperative Projects Committee of the Ministry of Social Affairs, marks a significant addition to the Kuwait’s healthcare services.
In a press statement, Dr. Al-Awadhi expressed pride in the opening of the center, highlighting its alignment with Kuwait’s vision and national strategy to improve medical infrastructure and enhance healthcare services. He noted that the center is distinguished by its use of the latest medical technologies and a specialized team from various fields to treat sleep disorders across all age groups.
Dr. Al-Awadhi added that the center’s role extends beyond medical care to include medical education and professional development, with a dedicated training hall and the organization of scientific lectures.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Awadhi praised the National Cooperative Projects Committee for its support of this vital project, emphasizing that the collaboration between the two parties serves as an exemplary model of joint government efforts that enhance health services and contribute to achieving national goals.
For her part, Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah emphasized in a similar statement that the opening of the center highlights the crucial role played by the National Cooperative Projects Committee in supporting development projects that benefit the community.
Dr. Al-Huwailah expressed her gratitude to Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Chairman of the National Cooperative Projects Committee, along with everyone who contributed to the completion of the project. She praised the close cooperation that led to this significant achievement.
What’s more is that Dr. Al-Huwailah added that the committee’s donation to establish the center reflects the cooperatives’ commitment to enhancing health and social services, aligning with the state’s vision to improve quality of life. She expressed the Ministry of Social Affairs’ pride in contributing to this achievement, highlighting the close cooperation between government agencies to support sustainable development.
Dr. Al-Huwailah expressed her gratitude to all parties involved in the success of the project, emphasizing that cooperation between government agencies is a fundamental pillar in achieving development goals and serving the community.
For her part, Iman Al-Anbaei, head of the Kuwait Center for Sleep Medicine and a consultant in internal medicine, chest diseases, and sleep medicine, explained that the center offers integrated solutions for treating sleep disorders. She highlighted that the most common cases treated include snoring, sleep apnea, excessive daytime sleepiness, and chronic fatigue.
Al-Anbaei stressed that delaying the diagnosis of sleep disorders, particularly sleep apnea, can lead to serious health complications, including heart and arterial diseases, strokes, and weakened vital functions. She added that the center is equipped with seven rooms for conducting sleep studies, along with advanced devices for home studies. Additionally, the center features specialized outpatient clinics with multidisciplinary teams to treat various sleep disorders.
Regarding specialties, Al-Anbaei highlighted that the center’s team includes a select group of consultants specializing in sleep medicine, neurology, obesity, ear, nose, and throat, dentistry, and mental health. The team is supported by qualified sleep technicians and a dedicated nursing staff to ensure the highest levels of healthcare for patients.
Al-Anbaei expressed her gratitude to the Minister of Health and ministry officials, praising the significant role played by the Ministry of Social Affairs, particularly the National Cooperative Projects Committee, for their support and donations in establishing the center.
