Kuwait marks today second anniversary of H.H. Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled’s Accession

    • The State of Kuwait celebrates the second anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah’s accession as Crown Prince, marking two years of leadership, national service, diplomatic engagement, and support for the country’s development and security under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The State of Kuwait celebrates today (Tuesday) the second anniversary of the accession of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to the position of Crown Prince, a national occasion that reflects a journey rich in achievements and highlights His Highness’s contributions to supporting the country’s comprehensive development process and strengthening Kuwait’s standing across various fields.

Amid broad public support, an Amiri decree was issued on June 1, 2024, by His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, nominating Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah as Crown Prince. This was followed on June 2 by an Amiri decree formally appointing him to the position.

Upon taking the constitutional oath before His Highness the Amir, the Crown Prince pledged unwavering loyalty and dedication to serving Kuwait, safeguarding its interests, preserving its security and stability, and working for its continued advancement and prosperity while adhering to Islamic teachings and Kuwait’s national principles.

On the same day, the Cabinet held a special meeting chaired by His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister, during which ministers pledged allegiance to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah as Crown Prince. His Highness subsequently took the constitutional oath before the Cabinet.

The second anniversary of His Highness’s accession comes at a critical period for the region, during which Kuwait has successfully navigated regional and security challenges with wisdom, experience, and diplomatic skill. Throughout this period, His Highness the Crown Prince has played a vital role in supporting the leadership of His Highness the Amir, embodying dedication to national duty and commitment to the constitutional oath.

His Highness has maintained a strong presence in the field during periods of heightened regional tension, particularly following the Iranian aggression that began on February 28. His leadership was reflected through strategic inspection tours of key defense and security institutions aimed at enhancing national preparedness and strengthening the country’s security framework.

On March 7, His Highness visited the General Headquarters of the National Guard and the Kuwait Fire Force, where he conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

During the visits, he praised the National Guard’s efforts to keep pace with evolving security challenges and commended the Kuwait Fire Force personnel for their contributions to civil protection and emergency response.

His tours also included military bases and installations across the country, the Joint Operations Center of the Ministry of Defense, the Air Force Operations Center, and the Decision-Making Room at the Ministry of Interior.

On April 28, His Highness headed Kuwait’s delegation to the extraordinary consultative summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held in Jeddah, representing His Highness the Amir. Over the past year, he has continued to oversee development initiatives and advocate Kuwait’s positions at local, regional, and international forums, contributing to the strengthening of the country’s reputation and diplomatic standing.

His Highness has also sponsored and attended numerous national events, inaugurated new facilities and landmarks, welcomed Arab and international officials, and honored distinguished Kuwaitis who have achieved notable accomplishments in various sectors.

On September 15, 2025, His Highness led Kuwait’s delegation to the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit held in Doha, Qatar.

Four days later, he headed Kuwait’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations in New York.

On September 22, he participated in the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution at United Nations Headquarters.

The following day, he delivered a statement on behalf of GCC member states during an emergency session of the UN Security Council addressing developments in the Middle East and the Palestinian issue. On September 24, he delivered Kuwait’s official address before the General Assembly.
His international engagements also included a visit to the United Kingdom on September 27, where he met Prince William, Prince of Wales. On November 2, he headed the Kuwaiti delegation during official talks in Kuwait with a delegation from the People’s Republic of China led by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng.

On December 15, he attended the opening of the exhibition “Between Two Masterpieces: The Genesis of the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah” at the Amricani Cultural Centre in Kuwait City.

His Highness the Crown Prince’s distinguished public service career has played a major role in shaping Kuwaiti diplomacy and national policy over the past two decades. His contributions have helped define Kuwait’s approach to major domestic and international challenges while strengthening relations with GCC countries, Arab states, and friendly nations around the world.

Born in 1953, His Highness obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 1977. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1978 and later served as Kuwait’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and the country’s representative to the Organization of the Islamic Conference between 1995 and 1998.

In 1998, he was appointed Head of the National Security Bureau with ministerial rank. He subsequently served as Minister of Social Affairs and Labour in 2006 and 2007, before being appointed Minister of Information in 2008 and 2009.

In 2011, His Highness assumed the portfolio of Minister of Foreign Affairs and was appointed Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs in February 2012.

He was reappointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in December of the same year. In January 2014, an Amiri decree named him First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He continued to hold senior ministerial positions in successive governments, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2017.

On November 19, 2019, His Highness was appointed Prime Minister, forming the first government he was tasked with. He then formed his second government on December 14, 2020, followed by his third government on March 2, 2021, and his fourth in December 2021.

Today, as Kuwait marks the second anniversary of his accession as Crown Prince, the occasion stands as a reflection of his continued commitment to serving the nation, supporting its leadership, and advancing its interests at home and abroad.
