Kuwait diverts 3 flights to Dammam amid severe weather conditions

Director of the Air Navigation Department at the Kuwait International Airport, Dawood Al-Jarrah, confirmed that the department implemented all necessary precautionary measures in response to the severe weather conditions affecting the country, in line with established regulations and recommendations to ensure the safety of air traffic and passengers. As a result of the adverse conditions, three flights were diverted to Dammam Airport after being unable to land at the Kuwait International Airport.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Jarrah stated that the department acted in accordance with the highest international safety and security standards following Sunday evening’s unstable weather to safeguard passengers and aircraft.
He explained the weather was marked by the development of cumulonimbus clouds and intense wind activity, with wind speeds exceeding 35 knots (approximately 70 km/h) and gusts reaching over 40 knots (around 85 km/h). These conditions led to a sharp drop in horizontal visibility, which fell to less than 300 meters.
Al-Jarrah added at 10:47 p.m. local time, a flight from Assiut Airport and another from Cairo were diverted to Dammam Airport due to their inability to land in Kuwait. Additionally, one of two IndiGo flights arriving from Delhi entered a holding pattern in the air before ultimately being diverted to Dammam at 11:05 p.m.
Meanwhile, the second IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad landed safely at Kuwait International Airport at 11:41 p.m.
He also confirmed that a Kuwait Airways flight arriving from Dubai successfully landed at 11:06 p.m., despite the challenging weather conditions.
