Kuwait ditches palm cultivation, opts for eco-friendly trees

Eng. Nasser Mohammed Taqi, Director General of the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources, confirmed the suspension of palm cultivation for cosmetic crops across all regions of Kuwait, replacing them with sustainable trees suited to the Kuwaiti environment. He also highlighted the halt on the use of artificial grass.
Dr. Taqi explained in a statement to Al-Rai newspaper that “palm cultivation is expensive in material terms, requires large amounts of water, and is susceptible to many diseases, necessitating significant effort and time to prevent them.”
He stressed that “the authority attaches great importance to increasing the green areas in the country in line with our local environment, which will improve Kuwait’s position in global indicators.”
He also pointed out that “the use of artificial grass has been stopped in the authority’s projects due to its environmental impact and the harmful chemicals in its components.”
