Kuwait declares August 27 public holiday for Prophet’s Birthday
Government employees in Kuwait will get a day off on Thursday, August 27, as the Council of Ministers has approved a public holiday marking the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (Mawlid Al-Nabawi).
The decision means government ministries, public authorities and institutions will suspend work on Thursday, giving employees a three-day break when combined with the regular Friday-Saturday weekend.
The holiday is being observed in accordance with Kuwait’s official calendar of public holidays and the Council of Ministers’ decision to mark the religious occasion. The Prophet’s Birthday is traditionally observed on 12 Rabi’ Al-Awwal, with the occasion providing an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on the life, teachings and values of Prophet Muhammad.
Essential services to continue
As with other official holidays, government departments and agencies whose work requires continuous operations will continue to function according to arrangements determined by the authorities concerned. This includes sectors responsible for essential public services, security, healthcare and other facilities where uninterrupted operations are necessary.
The holiday will nevertheless provide a welcome break for thousands of government employees, allowing families and communities across Kuwait to observe the occasion while enjoying an extended weekend. The Council of Ministers extended its greetings and congratulations to His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince, the government and the people of Kuwait, as well as residents of the country, on the occasion.
The government also prayed that the occasion would return to Kuwait and the wider Islamic world with peace, prosperity and blessings.
