Kuwait Criminal Court Sentences Citizens in Hezbollah Financing Case

One stripped of nationality; prison terms issued in high profile ruling

Kuwait’s Criminal Court has handed down prison sentences to a number of citizens, including a ruling to strip one individual of his nationality, in a case linked to the financing of the Lebanese group Hezbollah.

According to local media reports, the court sentenced two defendants to 10 years in prison, while another received a shorter jail term, after being convicted of charges related to funding and joining a prohibited organization.

The case also saw one of the accused lose his Kuwaiti citizenship, underscoring the seriousness with which authorities are treating offences tied to national security and external affiliations.

Investigations revealed that the defendants were involved in financial activities and coordination efforts connected to the group, which is designated as a banned organization in Kuwait and across Gulf states. Authorities have in recent years intensified scrutiny of financial transactions suspected of supporting such entities.

The ruling reflects Kuwait’s continued efforts to combat illicit financing networks and reinforce legal measures against individuals found guilty of supporting outlawed groups.
