Iranian FM Araghchi says MoU with US ‘never been closer’

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday that Tehran and Washington have “never been closer” to reaching an agreement aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East.

In a post published on X, Araghchi referred to the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” referencing the Pakistani capital that previously hosted indirect talks between the United States and Iran.

“The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer,” Araghchi wrote, while urging media outlets to avoid speculation regarding the contents of the proposed agreement until it is officially finalized.

“Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content,” he stated after Iranian media outlets published purported details of the accord.

Araghchi added that all details would be disclosed publicly “in due course,” stressing that Tehran remains committed to a “responsible and transparent approach.”

The remarks come amid growing expectations that Washington and Tehran are nearing a breakthrough agreement, despite lingering tensions and unresolved issues between the two sides, according to news agencies.

US President Donald Trump later reposted a screenshot of Araghchi’s statement on his Truth Social platform.

Earlier, Trump criticized reports circulating in Iranian media regarding the terms of the proposed agreement, writing on Truth Social that the reports “have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing.”
