Growing EV use prompts Kuwait to strengthen fire safety measures
With electric vehicles becoming increasingly common across the country, the Kuwaiti Association for Protection from Fire Hazards will host a seminar titled “Global Trends for Ensuring the Safety of Electric Vehicles” next Tuesday under the patronage of Kuwait Fire Force Chief, Major General Talal Al-Roumi.
The event, to be held at the KFF Theatre, will bring together local and international experts to discuss best practices for electric vehicle safety, fire prevention, and charging infrastructure.
Retired Lieutenant General Yousef Al-Ansari, former KFF Director General and chairman of the seminar, said the event reflects the growing need to keep pace with global safety standards as electric vehicle use expands.
He said the seminar aims to raise public awareness, strengthen the preparedness of relevant authorities to respond to EV-related risks, and highlight safety requirements for charging stations and safe operating procedures.
Al-Ansari noted that Kuwait and the Gulf region’s high summer temperatures make it essential to follow international best practices in the use, charging and maintenance of electric vehicles to minimize fire risks.
Engineer Hossam Al-Kulaib, Vice Chairman of the Kuwaiti Association for Protection from Fire Hazards, said the seminar forms part of the association’s ongoing efforts to promote fire safety awareness and share the latest scientific developments in fire prevention.
He stressed the importance of cooperation between government agencies, the private sector and academic institutions, while calling on specialists and stakeholders to participate in the event and exchange expertise.
Al-Kulaib also emphasized that dealing with electric vehicle fires requires specialized training for firefighting teams, warning that such incidents can result in significant property damage if not handled properly.
