Filipinos in Kuwait send $585 million in 2023 remittances

H. E. Jose Cabrera, the Ambassador of the Philippines to the country, said Kuwait hosts 267,000 Filipino workers and residents, and the state is the fourteenth largest source of Filipino workers' remittances.

  • Ambassador Cabrera revealed his country’s efforts to expand cooperation in areas such as security, combating terrorism, transnational crimes, food security, climate action, and other mutually beneficial interests.

His Excellency Jose Cabrera, the Ambassador of the Philippines to Kuwait, commended the strong bilateral relations between the two countries. He emphasized that the ongoing discussions on employment issues will alleviate concerns and improve mutual understanding and trust. He thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its close cooperation, assistance, and support in strengthening friendship and advancing the partnership between the Philippines and Kuwait.

This occurred during the celebration of the 126th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of the Philippines, in the presence of Assistant Secretary of State for Asian Affairs Ambassador Samih Gohar Hayat and a number of diplomats.

The Philippine Ambassador pointed out that there are 267,000 Filipino workers and residents in Kuwait, ranking it sixth among countries that receive Filipino workers, and the fourteenth largest source of Filipino workers’ remittances. The total remittances from members of the Filipino community in Kuwait amounted to more than $585 million in 2023. The ambassador further stated that most Filipino citizens in Kuwait work in homes.

With a total of about 189 thousand workers, comprising 71% of the total workforce making positive contributions to the economies and societies of the countries in which they work.

Ambassador Cabrera revealed his country’s efforts to expand cooperation in areas such as security, combating terrorism, transnational crimes, food security, climate action, and other mutually beneficial interests.
