Phased restart of Kuwait Airport running efficiently and as planned at 10% capacity

40 daily flights mark successful start of airport’s gradual reopening

The gradual operations plan for Kuwait International Airport is progressing smoothly and efficiently, with flight operations resuming successfully, according to the Public Authority General of Civil Aviation.

PACA Deputy Director General for Planning and Projects, Engineer Saad Al-Otaibi, confirmed that the reopening of Kuwait’s airspace and the resumption of flights began on Sunday in coordination with all relevant authorities and airport partners.

Al-Otaibi stated that the restart plan was implemented in cooperation with key institutions, including the Ministry of Interior, General Administration of Customs, Kuwait Fire Force, Ministry of Health, and all operational entities at the airport, in addition to national carriers Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways, reports Al-Rai daily.

He emphasized that flights launched from early morning were operating smoothly, efficiently, and with a high level of professionalism, under the directives of Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ali Al-Sabah and the close follow-up of the PACA President Sheikh Hamoud Al-Sabah.

Al-Otaibi noted that the success of the plan reflects strong coordination among all stakeholders, as well as the dedication of operational teams working jointly to ensure a safe and orderly return to air traffic.

Currently, the airport is operating at approximately 10 percent of its pre-February 28 capacity, when daily traffic averaged around 400 flights. At present, operations include about 40 flights per day.

These flights are evenly distributed between departures and arrivals, with 20 outbound and 20 inbound scheduled as part of the phased operational strategy.

He reaffirmed that operations are proceeding according to plan, with continued monitoring and gradual expansion expected as conditions stabilize and readiness increases.

The phased reopening marks a key step toward restoring Kuwait’s aviation sector, with authorities focusing on maintaining safety, efficiency, and coordination as air traffic steadily returns to normal levels.
