EPA confirms blacktip shark sighting near Bnaider as seasonal
. . . positive indicator of marine biodiversity

Environment Public Authority (EPA) has stated that a shark recently spotted near the Bnaider area is most likely a blacktip shark, noting that its appearance in Kuwaiti waters during May and June is considered a normal seasonal pattern linked to abundant food availability.
The authority explained that such sightings are generally viewed as a positive indicator of improving marine biodiversity and ecosystem health, adding that this particular species had not been recorded in the area for several years.
It emphasized the importance of public awareness and adherence to marine safety guidelines, urging beachgoers and sea users not to approach, touch, or disturb large marine creatures when encountered.
EPA spokesperson Sheikha Al Ibrahim also underlined the need to avoid any form of harm or interference with sharks, describing them as an essential component of the marine ecosystem and a key indicator of environmental balance and health.
