Relations between Cuba and Kuwait continue to grow from strength to strength, underpinned by more than five decades of diplomatic friendship and constructive engagement, according to Cuban Ambassador H.E. Alain Perez Torres.
In an exclusive interaction with The Times Kuwait, the ambassador described bilateral ties as warm and steadily advancing, with both nations keen to deepen cooperation across a broad spectrum of sectors including healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceutical production, renewable energy, tourism, food production, sports, and cultural exchange.
Ambassador Perez Torres highlighted significant opportunities for Kuwaiti investors in Cuba, particularly in tourism, clean energy, and biotechnology, noting that Cuba offers attractive investment incentives, a highly skilled workforce, and a stable environment for long-term partnerships.
He also acknowledged the valuable role played by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in supporting social development initiatives in Cuba, particularly projects aimed at ensuring safe drinking water access, while expressing optimism about expanding joint ventures in other sectors of mutual interest.
Emphasizing Cuba’s globally recognized healthcare expertise, the ambassador recalled the support provided by Cuban medical professionals to Kuwait during the COVID-19 pandemic, describing it as a strong example of practical bilateral cooperation. He said both countries are exploring further collaboration in healthcare services, professional training, and medical knowledge exchange.
Promoting stronger people-to-people ties, the ambassador noted Cuba’s growing appeal as a tourism destination for Kuwaiti travelers, citing the country’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and unique travel experiences.
On regional and international affairs, Ambassador Perez Torres reaffirmed Cuba’s belief that diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful engagement remain the most effective means of resolving global conflicts. He stressed the importance of respecting international law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while underscoring the collective responsibility of the international community to uphold peace and stability.
He also highlighted the important role of small and medium-sized nations in fostering global security, stating that all countries regardless of size have a meaningful contribution to make toward international cooperation and peaceful coexistence.
Turning to cultural diplomacy, the ambassador emphasized the importance of expanding educational, cultural, and sports exchanges between Cuba and Kuwait, noting that shared values and mutual goodwill provide a strong foundation for deeper engagement.
While scholarship opportunities for Kuwaiti students are not currently available, he expressed hope that future academic exchange initiatives could be developed to strengthen bilateral understanding.
In a heartfelt message, Ambassador Perez Torres conveyed his sincere appreciation to the people of Kuwait for the warmth and hospitality extended to him, and expressed his best wishes for the country’s continued prosperity under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Looking ahead, the ambassador voiced strong confidence in the future of Cuba-Kuwait relations, reaffirming his commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation and friendship during his tenure in Kuwait.
