CPU approves admission of eligible Kuwaiti students for 2025/2026 academic year

The Council of Public Universities (CPU) has approved the admission of Kuwaiti students who meet the approved conditions for the 2025/2026 academic year. Other categories of applicants will be considered if vacancies are available. This decision reflects the Council’s commitment to prioritizing national students and ensuring that educational opportunities align with Kuwait’s development goals.

The announcement came during the Council’s third meeting of the year, held on Sunday and chaired by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Nader Al-Jalal. Members of the Council were present to review a range of academic and administrative matters related to higher education policy and planning, reports Al-Rai daily.

Dr. Jassim Al-Ali, Acting Secretary-General of the Council, stated that the members approved the minutes of the previous meeting held on March 27, 2025. The Council also reviewed a report on the follow-up to previous decisions and their implementation status.

Among the topics discussed was a memorandum regarding the appointment of members from outside the university to the Kuwait University Council. The Council also considered two memoranda of understanding—one with Qassim University and the other with the University of Malta—both aimed at strengthening academic and research cooperation with institutions in sister and friendly countries.

In the same meeting, the Council approved the academic calendars for all colleges at Kuwait University, including the College of Law and the colleges of the Medical Sciences Center, covering the academic years 2025/2026, 2026/2027, and 2027/2028.

The admission mechanism for public universities, including Kuwait University and Abdullah Al-Salem University, was also discussed. The Council reaffirmed that admission would be granted to Kuwaiti students who meet the established criteria, while non-Kuwaiti applicants would be considered only if places remain unfilled.

This approach reflects the Council’s efforts to accommodate the growing number of Kuwaiti students and to direct educational resources toward preparing national cadres.

The goal is to ensure that university graduates are well-qualified to meet the needs of the labor market, while supporting Kuwait’s broader vision for sustainable development.
