City Hypermarket Appoints Nasser Alghanim as Chief Executive Officer, Strengthening Leadership for Its Next Era of Growth
A decade of dedication and transformative leadership culminates in top appointment as the brand accelerates expansion and innovation

City Hypermarket, Kuwait’s fastest-growing local hypermarket chain and one of the country’s most trusted retail destinations, today announced the appointment of Nasser Alghanim as Chief Executive Officer. This milestone appointment reflects the Board’s confidence in his vision and recognizes a remarkable ten-year journey that has been central to the brand’s transformation — elevating the customer shopping experience while staying true to its core promise: Value, all the time.
A Decade of Transformative Leadership
Nasser Alghanim joined City Hypermarket as Business Development Manager and steadily rose through the organization, most recently serving as Deputy CEO. Throughout his tenure, he has been a driving force behind one of Kuwait’s most significant retail transformations — including the rebranding of City Center to City Hypermarket, the launch of the brand’s online platform in 2020, a comprehensive redesign of the in-store customer journey and experience, the addition of 8 new stores across Kuwait, and a landmark regional expansion into Qatar.
These milestones represent a strategic repositioning that sharpened the brand’s identity, modernized how customers interact with City Hypermarket across every touchpoint, extended its reach both locally and regionally, and set the stage for the sustained growth the business enjoys today. His decade of contribution has touched every dimension of the organization, from commercial strategy and operational excellence to customer experience and culture.
That commitment has been recognized through the voice of the customers, with City Hypermarket named Best Supermarket by Service Hero three times, including consecutively in 2024 and 2025 — a testament to a customer-first culture embedded across the entire organization.
Prior to joining City Hypermarket, Nasser Alghanim held roles at NBK Capital, Bank of America, and McKinsey & Company — experience that equipped him with a sharp commercial acumen and a global perspective that he has brought to bear throughout his tenure. He holds an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor’s degree from Babson College.
In His Own Words
“It is a privilege and a responsibility I do not take lightly,” said Nasser Alghanim, CEO of City Hypermarket. “This brand was built on a genuine commitment to delivering value to every customer, every time they walk through our doors, while continuously enhancing and elevating the shopping experience. We are proud that City Hypermarket is a homegrown Kuwaiti company and one of the most rapidly expanding retail brands in Kuwait. I am proud of what this team has achieved, and I am excited about what we will build together.”
A Heritage of Excellence
Originally founded in 1999 as City Center by Adel Al Ghanim, the brand has grown into a cornerstone of retail life for Kuwaiti families across generations. Today, operating as City Hypermarket, it continues to deliver on its founding promise of quality, variety, and everyday value, while continuously elevating the shopping experience across its stores.
Strengthening the Leadership Team
Alongside this appointment, City Hypermarket also welcomes Bernardo Perloiro as Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Perloiro brings extensive regional and international retail expertise, having held senior roles with globally recognized players including Carrefour and Walmart. His operational depth will complement Nasser Alghanim’s strategic leadership as the brand pursues its ambitious growth agenda.
Momentum Across All Fronts
City Hypermarket enters this new chapter with strong momentum. The brand recently opened two new stores in Egaila and Qurain, bringing its signature shopping experience to more communities across Kuwait. City Hypermarket has also upgraded the fresh sections in selected stores, enhancing the customer experience through improved product presentation, freshness, and overall shopping journey, with plans to further elevate and roll out this experience across all branches soon. Customers can also look forward to the upcoming launch of a revamped digital app and a new loyalty program — both designed to deliver a more personalized, rewarding, and seamless retail experience that puts value front and center.
