CAPT moves to revamp ‘road of death’, tender to open next week

Bids for the Kabd-Sulaibiya Road maintenance project will be opened next week, as Kuwait moves forward with efforts to upgrade one of its key transport corridors, according to the Central Agency for Public Tenders.

The agency has set July 12 as the closing date for the tender covering maintenance works and related services for a section of Kabd-Sulaibiya Road No. 604, as well as a linked stretch of the industrial road near the Sixth Ring Road.

The opening of bids will follow the submission deadline as part of the procurement process for the project.

Sources at the Ministry of Public Works said the maintenance plan focuses on improving one of the most hazardous segments of the route, which is heavily used by trucks and commuters.

The road has long been referred to as the “road of death” due to the risks associated with traffic diversions and congestion.

The planned works aim to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow, and support surrounding industrial and agricultural zones.

The project is also expected to ease pressure on a key link between the Sixth Ring Road and the Sulaibiya and Kabd areas, which experiences high traffic volumes throughout the year.
