Canada Congratulates Kuwait on National and Liberation Days

On the occasion of the National Day and Liberation Day of the State of Kuwait, I am honored, on behalf of the Government and the people of Canada, to extend my warmest congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, and to the Government and the friendly people of Kuwait.
As Kuwait commemorates its liberation, Canada proudly recalls its role as a key member of the international coalition in 1991, when approximately 4,500 Canadian Armed Forces personnel were deployed to help restore Kuwait’s sovereignty—reflecting Canada’s steadfast commitment to multilateral cooperation and a rules-based international order. The shared experience of 1991 forged enduring ties of trust and partnership between our two countries, both at the military and people-to-people levels.
Today, this legacy continues through our close cooperation in regional and international security and in addressing emerging threats. Kuwait remains an important strategic partner for Canada in the Arab Gulf region, notably through hosting the Canadian Armed Forces’ Operational Support Hub at Ali Al Salem Air Base, which provides pivotal support to Canada’s regional operations.
As these national celebrations coincide with the holy month of Ramadan, I would also like to convey my sincere wishes to His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince, and the people of Kuwait for a blessed and peaceful Ramadan. May this special time bring reflection, unity, and continued prosperity to Kuwait and its people.
H.E. Tara Scheurwater
Ambassador of Canada
