Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, the Minister of Public Works, conducted an inspection visit to the Mubarak Al-KabeerPort project site on Boubyan Island on Saturday morning. The visit was made by helicopter, accompanied by senior state officials and a Chinese government delegation currently on an official visit to Kuwait, according to Al Qabas newspaper.
Minister Al-Mashaan stated that the delegation’s field visit to the site was intended to activate the memorandum of understanding signed between the two friendly governments in September of last year. The memorandum concerns the establishment, development, implementation, management, and operation of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project on Boubyan Island.
Al-Mashaan explained that the purpose of the visit is to provide the Chinese government delegation with a comprehensive, on-the-ground perspective, enabling them to implement the project at a level that meets the ambitions of both nations’ leadership. This will help in advancing the current and future plans for this vital project.
During the field visit, the Chinese delegation expressed their commitment to accelerating the construction and development of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, emphasizing its importance in creating a secure regional corridor and establishing a trade hub in the region.
They also highlighted the dedication of Chinese state-owned companies to executing the project’s stages and integrating it into the Belt and Road Initiative, which is expected to have positive economic and developmental impacts on Kuwait and neighboring countries.
The discussions with the Chinese government delegation focused on reviewing the timelines for the start and completion of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project, with the goal of strengthening friendship and strategic cooperation in investment and development.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to establish the initial steps for the development of Mubarak Al-KabeerPort. This will involve cooperation with the Chinese state-owned giant to begin information collection and proceed with developing a work program for the investment, implementation, and operation of the port, starting with the first phase and extending through the remaining project phases.
