Kuwait sets strict dog ownership rules, violators face jail terms, fines

The Government Communication Center revealed the regulations for owning and caring for dogs, stressing the need to adhere to them in order to maintain public safety. The regulations included obtaining a license to own the dog, placing a collar with a metal plate containing the dog’s serial number, in addition to presenting it to the veterinary center for examination and vaccination against rabies, as well as adhering to the annual vaccination.

According to the regulations, a muzzle and leash must be used for the dog while walking in roads and public places, and the veterinary center must be notified if the dog is infected with rabies or suspected of being infected. The regulations also indicated the need to avoid approaching, burying, or touching animals that are infected or suspected of being infected with rabies.

The Government Communication Center indicated that violating these regulations is punishable by law with imprisonment for a period not exceeding one month, and a fine exceeding 30 dinars, or one of these two penalties.
