Ahmadi Governor tours Al-Wafra Farms, calls for solutions to support food security

. . . backs farmers amid mounting challenges as Al-Wafra agricultural sector faces infrastructure, power, and cost pressures

Governor of Ahmadi, Sheikh Hamoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, conducted an inspection tour of the Al-Wafra agricultural area, reaffirming the importance of the sector in enhancing Kuwait’s food security and pledging support to address the challenges facing farmers.

The visit was attended by officials from the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources, along with representatives of the agricultural sector. The governor was received by the Chairman of Al-Wafra Agricultural Association, Nasser Al-Hamdan, as well as members of the Farmers Union and local farmers.

During the tour, Sheikh Hamoud was briefed on agricultural production levels and listened to detailed field explanations outlining the current state of the sector and the obstacles hindering its growth.

Vice President of the Kuwaiti Farmers Union, Fahd Mesfer Al-Hayyan, outlined several pressing issues affecting farmers in Al-Wafra. Among the most critical challenges are groundwater seepage and the impact of certain oil-sector activities on agricultural land.

Infrastructure concerns also featured prominently, with farmers pointing to deteriorating road conditions that hinder movement within the area, as well as frequent power outages that disrupt daily operations.

Additional concerns included the prolonged disruption of a fuel station on Mohammed Al-Jalal Al-Sahli Street due to maintenance delays, and the postponement of government agricultural support payments—factors that have increased financial strain and affected workforce stability.

Farmers also raised concerns about rising prices of agricultural supplies, calling for tighter market regulation and clearer labeling of pesticides to ensure safe and effective usage, thereby preserving the quality of local produce.

The governor toured several farms and met directly with farmers, listening to their concerns and demands firsthand, reports Al-Rai daily.

The visit underscored his commitment to field engagement and proactive follow-up on issues impacting vital sectors.
Sheikh Hamoud praised the efforts of farmers, the Farmers Union, and the Al-Wafra Agricultural Association, highlighting their crucial role in supporting national food security.

Concluding the visit, the governor stressed the importance of unified efforts between government entities and stakeholders to overcome challenges and achieve sustainable agricultural development.

He emphasized that strengthening the agricultural sector is a national priority, noting that continued support and practical solutions are essential to ensuring long-term resilience and productivity in Kuwait’s farming communities.
