Three people were killed in Mexico City on Tuesday night after a crowd crush broke out during massive celebrations following Mexico’s World Cup victory over Ecuador.
The incident occurred near the Angel of Independence monument along Paseo de la Reforma, one of the capital’s main boulevards, where thousands of fans had gathered to celebrate the national team’s 2-0 victory at Azteca Stadium.
According to Mexico City’s health authorities, the victims included two women aged 19 and 48, and a 44-year-old man, all of whom died from suffocation after becoming trapped in the dense crowds.
Authorities said the victims were found unconscious at different locations near the landmark, while emergency medical teams and paramedics were deployed immediately to the scene, dw.com reports.
