CBK foreign reserves remain strong at 10.2 bln dinars in May 2026

The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) maintained robust foreign currency reserves at the end of May 2026, underscoring the strength of the country’s external financial position and its continued ability to support monetary stability and confidence in the Kuwaiti dinar.

According to monthly data issued by the Central Bank, total foreign currency assets, including cash balances, deposits, bonds, certificates of deposit, treasury bills, and foreign currency holdings, stood at 10.237 billion dinars at the end of May 2026.

These reserves accounted for 98.1% of the Central Bank’s total assets, which reached 10.431 billion dinars during the same period, highlighting the institution’s strong reliance on highly liquid and high-credit-quality foreign instruments.

On the liabilities side, deposits and accounts of local banks with the Central Bank rose significantly to 3.633 billion dinars in May, compared with 3.280 billion dinars in April, reflecting increased liquidity within the domestic banking sector.

Currency in circulation also edged higher to 2.208 billion dinars, up from 2.200 billion dinars in the previous month, indicating steady economic activity and sustained demand for cash within the market.

In contrast, government accounts with the Central Bank declined to 1.474 billion dinars from 2.015 billion dinars in April, reflecting monthly fluctuations in public sector cash flows.

Other key financial indicators remained stable, with the General Reserve Fund holding at 1.943 billion dinars, fiscal year profits steady at 399.3 million dinars, Central Bank bonds unchanged at 60 million dinars, and the special account remaining at 95.2 million dinars.

Overall, the data reflects continued financial strength and liquidity stability within Kuwait’s monetary system, reinforcing the Central Bank’s capacity to manage exchange rate stability and navigate regional and global economic uncertainties.
