Job hope ends under rubble as Delhi building collapse kills 6 people

Two friends die during post-interview celebration as structure crashes onto student canteen

A celebration of a promising job interview ended in tragedy when a multi-storey building collapsed onto a student canteen near Delhi’s Saket Metro station, killing six people, including two young friends with dreams of careers ahead of them.

A post-interview gathering among friends turned tragic on Saturday evening when a multi-storey commercial building collapsed in Delhi’s Saidulajab area near Saket Metro station, killing at least six people and injuring several others.

The building on Western Marg crashed onto a tin-roofed canteen frequented by students preparing for competitive examinations, trapping dozens under the rubble.

Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, police and local volunteers, worked through the night to recover victims and clear debris.

Among those killed were 28-year-old Kapil, who had recently attended a job interview with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), and 23-year-old Nalin Ray, a BTech graduate from Bihar preparing for the GATE examination.

The two friends were part of a group meeting at the canteen when the structure suddenly collapsed around 7.30 pm.

Witnesses said the building shook moments before giving way, sending concrete and metal crashing onto the crowded eatery. Local residents joined initial rescue efforts before emergency teams arrived.

The collapsed structure housed coaching centres, offices and cafes, while construction work was reportedly underway on an upper floor. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse.
