Capital governorate charts smart, sustainable future while preserving heritage
New vision, infrastructure upgrades, digital shift and Mubarakiya traffic relief plans

The Capital Governorate is entering a new phase of urban development focused on modernization and sustainability, driven by integrated projects aimed at upgrading infrastructure, expanding green spaces, and improving public services.
Governor Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali said the strategy seeks to create a modern city while preserving its historical identity.
He noted that the governorate has achieved noticeable progress in service delivery and development projects, despite challenges such as rapid urban demands and overlapping responsibilities among authorities.
These obstacles have been addressed through stronger coordination, field monitoring, and teamwork, with community satisfaction remaining the key benchmark of success.
Looking ahead, priorities include enhancing infrastructure across all areas, increasing green spaces, improving public services, and upgrading facilities to ensure a better quality of life.
The Governor emphasized that national leadership directives are being translated into practical initiatives focused on sustainability, digital transformation, and service efficiency.
Ongoing projects include road development, rehabilitation of key areas, and urban beautification and afforestation efforts in cooperation with government entities and the private sector.
The governorate, he said, is also working to balance modernization with heritage preservation by developing historical sites in a way that maintains their cultural identity.
Digital transformation is a central pillar of the plan, with expanded e-services and the adoption of smart technologies to improve performance and responsiveness, he added.
At the same time, efforts are being made to strengthen community engagement through direct communication channels, electronic platforms, and regular meetings to address residents’ concerns and enhance service delivery.
Special attention is being given to easing congestion in Al-Mubarakiya through proposed solutions such as alternative routes, expanded parking, and public transport initiatives, including shuttle buses from Souq Sharq.
Additional plans include smart facilities, environmental initiatives, and increased green areas, alongside support for tourism projects, including the development of historical sites and islands as sustainable destinations.
