Rubio holds door open for Iran agreement amid US strikes

. . . emphasizes diplomatic resolve

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says that despite recent US military strikes on Iran, a diplomatic agreement with Tehran remains possible.

During an official visit to India, Rubio told reporters, “There were discussions happening in Qatar today, so we hope to make progress.”

He noted that talks are focused on the precise wording of the initial documents and could take several days to finalize.

Rubio added, “The president (Donald Trump) is determined to make a deal, either a good deal or no deal at all.”

His comments came soon after the US Central Command confirmed it had launched “self-defense” strikes targeting missile sites and boats suspected of placing mines in southern Iran.

According to Captain Tim Hawkins, the strikes were intended to protect US forces from threats by Iranian forces, while efforts to maintain restraint during the ongoing ceasefire continue.

It remains unclear how these recent military actions will affect the ongoing negotiations.
