Cigarette butts litter staircases of New Palace of Justice
. . . outrageous scenario sparks concern over oversight

A scene described as both shocking and inappropriate for the stature of the location was documented on Monday inside the new Palace of Justice.
The image, taken on one of the building’s internal staircases, show it is littered with cigarette butts in apparent violation of regulations prohibiting smoking inside government facilities.
The incident has raised questions about hygiene standards, public safety, and the level of oversight within a facility that is meant to embody discipline, order and respect for the law, reports Al-Jarida daily.
Observers noted the irony of such violations occurring inside a judicial institution frequented daily by judges, lawyers and members of the public.
Beyond the negative visual impression, the presence of cigarette waste carries health and environmental implications and reflects disregard for public spaces.
The matter has prompted calls for the Environmental Police to step in, intensify monitoring, and act against violators in accordance with the law.
There are also demands for the administration of the new Palace of Justice to strengthen internal supervision, strictly enforce the smoking ban, increase warning signage and ensure security and service teams carry out their duties effectively to preserve the building’s image and institutional prestige.
