Breaking barriers in uniform: first Kuwaiti woman enters police aviation training in Greece
In a precedent-setting move that reshapes the landscape of women’s participation in Kuwait’s security institutions, the Ministry of Interior has dispatched the country’s first female police officer to study aviation sciences abroad—marking a historic breakthrough in military training and gender empowerment.
The Directorate-General of the Police Aviation Wing, affiliated to the Ministry of Interior, has announced the first Kuwaiti female officer is pursuing aviation sciences in Greece, in what has been described as unprecedented in Kuwait’s military institutions.
The initiative comes as part of the continued support of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahd Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, toward strengthening human capital and advancing the professional development of military and security personnel, reports Al-Rai daily.
In the official statement, the ministry quoting the Director-General of the Police Aviation Wing, Brigadier General Pilot Salem Al-Shehab, confirmed that the scholarship marks “the first of its kind at the level of military institutions in the State of Kuwait.”
Brigadier Al-Shehab explained that First Lieutenant Dana Al-Shaleen, the scholarship recipient, will undergo advanced academic and practical training in police aviation. Upon completion, she will be fully qualified to serve as a pilot officer within the Police Aviation Wing.
He emphasized that the decision reflects the state’s strategic vision to empower women, expand their role across security and military sectors, and align national institutions with modern operational and technological standards.
The move is widely seen as a significant institutional shift, opening new professional pathways for Kuwaiti women in specialized security fields and reinforcing Kuwait’s commitment to inclusive development within its armed and police forces.
