Appeals Court suspends imprisonment for former MP Saleh Al-Mulla

The Court of Appeals has placed a hold on the execution of a three-year prison sentence against former Member of Parliament Saleh Al-Mulla, granting him release on good conduct bail.

This decision comes after Al-Mulla was initially sentenced by the Criminal Court to two years’ imprisonment with hard labor in a state security case, reports Al-Rai.

Al-Mulla’s original conviction stemmed from a tweet he posted on his X account in May 2024. Authorities interpreted the post as a challenge to the authority of His Highness the Amir and as a misuse of his phone.

He was previously released on bail of 1,000 dinars during the prosecution’s investigation. During the trial, Al-Mulla maintained that his social media post expressed constitutional opinion and did not constitute an attack.

The Appeals Court has scheduled the next hearing for 17 December, when it will issue a final ruling on the case.
