Kuwait acting Information Minister urges unity amid ‘rampant challenges’

It is imperative to ratchet up cooperation among media bodies across the wider Arab region to stave off “rampant challenges,” Kuwait’s Acting Information Minister Omar Al-Omar said on Tuesday, citing such unrest as detrimental to the region’s security and stability.

At a time when the wider Arab region is in the throes of “mounting unrest,” in the form of attacks on several Arab countries, Gulf Cooperation Council member states in particular, the Kuwaiti minister told Arab Information Ministers’ Council’s executive committee talks in the Egyptian capital that these attacks throw into peril the region’s security and stability.

He went on to say that pushing forward “joint Arab media work” was necessary to bolster cooperation among media institutions, which in turn would strengthen the reliability and accuracy of information produced by these bodies, citing such efforts as instrumental in “serving joint interests.”

On the use of cutting-edge technologies in the media industry, chief among them Artificial Intelligence tools, he said that such methods have revolutionized media content creation in a manner that has created a watershed in the industry, urging that these technologies should supplement adequate staff training.

Discussing the core objectives of the Arab Information Ministers’ council, he said that the body should serve as a platform that supports the development of novel ideas and initiatives, in addition to promoting the exchange of know-how and progress of regional media institutions.

The Kuwaiti minister spoke of the responsibilities incumbent upon Arab media bodies to prioritize issues concerning the region, emphasizing the need to “strike a balance” between the promptness and accuracy of information, all the while adhering to professional conduct and ethical standards, he added.

The acting Kuwaiti information minister went on to reiterate his country’s commitment to strengthening Arab media cooperation in a bid to “keep pace” with changes and meet the aspirations of its people, calling for the need to put in place a lucid vision that would bring tangible results on the ground.
