KOC unveils record-breaking offshore gas discovery at Jazza Field

. . . strengthens Kuwait’s energy future

The Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), announced a major exploratory breakthrough with the discovery of the Jazza offshore natural gas field, marking the highest production rate ever recorded from a vertical well in Kuwait’s Managish formation.

The achievement underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to expand and develop the nation’s hydrocarbon resources.

According to KOC, initial testing of the Jazza-1 well revealed exceptional production rates exceeding 29 million cubic feet per day of gas and over 5,000 barrels per day of condensates.

The reservoir is notable for its low carbon dioxide content, absence of hydrogen sulfide, and lack of associated water, making it an environmentally and technically rare find.

The initial estimated area of the field spans around 40 square kilometers, containing approximately 1 trillion cubic feet of gas and over 120 million barrels of condensates—equivalent to 350 million barrels of oil equivalent.

KOC emphasized that these figures are preliminary and could increase with further exploration in other reservoirs within the field.

This latest discovery follows a series of offshore exploration successes, including the Al Nokhda field in July 2024 and the Al Jalaiah field in January 2025, reflecting the company’s rapid advancement in Kuwait’s offshore operations.

Minister of Oil and KPC Chairman Tariq Sulaiman Al-Roumi hailed the find as a strategic step within the KPC and KOC 2040 vision, aimed at enhancing national energy security and boosting production capacity. “Work is currently underway to accelerate the development of the discovered offshore fields and integrate them into the production system, which will drive economic growth and provide new job opportunities for national talents,” he said.

KPC CEO Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah expressed pride in the achievement, noting that it demonstrates “the exceptional competence of national cadres who have proven their technical and professional excellence in pioneering new exploration frontiers.”

He added that the discoveries reaffirm the “high quality of the Kuwaiti barrel” with its low-emission profile, aligning with the corporation’s long-term vision for a sustainable and secure energy future.

KOC Chairman Ahmad Jaber Al-Aidan also praised the dedication and teamwork of the company’s employees, stating that these discoveries “embody the values of excellence, innovation, and collaboration,” and confirming KOC’s commitment to continuing its journey toward development, leadership, and energy innovation.
