Qatar Foundation is set to unveil Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum, a new cultural landmark celebrating the life and work of Maqbool Fida Husain, one of modern art’s most influential figures.

Opening to the public on November 28, the museum will serve as a hub for creativity, dialogue, and discovery, joining the growing network of public spaces within Qatar Foundation’s Education City that promote art, heritage, and innovation.

The museum promises an immersive experience, allowing visitors to step into Husain’s world and explore the influences, philosophies, and memories that shaped his artistic journey. Through multimedia storytelling and diverse art forms—including paintings, films, tapestries, photography, and poetry—the museum brings Husain’s vision to life, engaging audiences across Qatar and the wider region in bold and innovative ways.

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, commissioned Maqbool Fida Husain to create a series of paintings inspired by Arab civilization. Before his passing, Husain completed more than 35 of these works, many of which will be featured in the galleries of Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the artist’s exploration of heritage, culture, and creativity.

The museum’s design is inspired by a sketch from Husain himself, reflecting the architectural concept he envisioned for the building. Husain imagined the museum as a work of art in its own right, embodying his lifelong pursuit of innovation and his multidisciplinary artistic practice. The building’s aesthetic and layout are intended to provide an immersive environment where visitors can engage deeply with both the space and the artworks it houses.

The opening of Lawh Wa Qalam exemplifies Qatar Foundation’s mission to create spaces where education, culture, and community converge for the benefit of Qatar and the wider world. This vision is evident across Education City’s learning centers, cultural institutions, and public spaces that encourage curiosity, creativity, and connection, with the museum serving as the latest addition to this ecosystem.

“Designed as a space for inspiration and creativity, Lawh Wa Qalam reflects Qatar Foundation’s dedication to offering opportunities for everyone to explore, enjoy, learn from, and be inspired by art and culture,” said Kholoud M. Al-Ali, Executive Director of Community Engagement and Programming at Qatar Foundation. “This immersive museum will foster artistic dialogue, exploration, discovery, and critical thinking, creating meaningful connections with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.”

Husain’s extraordinary artistic journey mirrors the dynamic spirit of Education City. His timeless works, displayed alongside more than 100 other pieces across the campus, illustrate the power of creativity to educate, inspire, and foster cross-cultural understanding. Among the museum’s highlights is Seeroo fi al ardh, Husain’s final masterpiece, celebrating humanity’s progress and serving as a dedicated gallery where visitors can experience his art in a specially curated presentation.

Further details on visiting Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum will be shared closer to its public opening on November 28, offering an unparalleled opportunity to engage with one of modern art’s most influential figures.
