Kuwait’s healthcare system undergoes major expansion with world-class infrastructure

Kuwait’s healthcare system has undergone a remarkable transformation over the decades, evolving into a model of excellence that now rivals global standards.
This progress is the result of sustained government efforts and visionary leadership that has consistently prioritized healthcare as a national cornerstone.
Today, Kuwait boasts a modern and integrated healthcare infrastructure, underpinned by cutting-edge technologies and comprehensive services designed to meet the diverse and growing needs of its population.

The Ministry of Health is actively implementing a national health strategy aligned with Kuwait’s broader development plan, with a focus on expanding hospital capacity, upgrading healthcare centers, and introducing the latest medical innovations to ensure efficiency, quality, and accessibility.
The following are the major projects advancing healthcare infrastructure
New Maternity Hospital – Sabah Medical Zone
According to Assistant Undersecretary for Engineering Affairs and Projects, Eng. Ibrahim Al-Nahham, several major projects are either under construction or recently completed.
Among them is the new Maternity Hospital in the Sabah Medical Zone, built to international standards. This state-of-the-art facility integrates advanced medical technologies with compassionate care and is focused on women’s health and neonatal services. It also incorporates green building practices and energy-efficient systems.
New Al-Sabah Hospital
Another significant development is the new Al-Sabah Hospital, also located in the Sabah Medical Zone. Spanning 88,710 square meters, the facility includes three towers, an engineering services building, and a parking structure.
It will offer both general and specialized care, with 512 inpatient beds, 105 intensive care beds, 72 outpatient clinics, and a helipad. The hospital is designed to operate as a fully independent and self-sufficient medical complex.
Communicable Diseases Hospital
Constructed on a 74,000-square-meter site, this hospital includes a main building and a kitchen facility. It houses 224 beds and comprises departments for emergency care, radiology, pharmacy, medical records, and support services—providing a crucial component in Kuwait’s public health preparedness.
Kuwait Cancer Control Center
Currently under development within the Sabah Medical Zone, this project covers a total area of 303,536 square meters. The main cancer treatment facility spans 226,525 square meters and is split into two towers—one for outpatients and one for inpatients—with a total of 618 beds. The hospital will be equipped with fully automated systems and advanced mechanical and electrical infrastructure to support specialized oncology care.
New Al-Adan Hospital Complex
This comprehensive complex includes seven interconnected buildings located in the Al-Adan Hospital area.
Maternity and pediatrics, this hospital spans 226,369 square meters and includes 637 fixed and 471 mobile beds, 14 floors, a basement, and a helipad.
The surgical and central services facility covers 34,417 square meters and features 141 mobile beds over two floors.
Physical therapy and rehabilitation, this center occupies 28,525 square meters with a basement and three upper floors.
The Ahmadi Health District Administration and parking building spans 118,696 square meters across eight floors. Additional structures provide parking and strategic storage.
Vision 2035: Healthcare as a National Priority
These developments reflect Kuwait’s commitment to achieving the goals of its Vision 2035 development plan, with healthcare identified as a key sector for advancement. The Ministry of Health is also enhancing international cooperation by attracting global expertise, adopting leading healthcare models, and improving standards of care to ensure long-term sustainability.
In parallel, the Ministry is investing in national human capital by offering training programs, scholarships, and partnerships with academic and medical institutions both locally and abroad. These efforts aim to build a highly skilled generation of healthcare professionals equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
