20,961 traffic violations and 1,308 accidents in eight days

The Traffic and Operations Affairs Sector, of the General Traffic Department and the General Directorate of Emergency Police, recorded a total of 20,961 traffic violations and handled 1,308 accidents over an eight-day period, authorities said.

Out of the total accidents, 178 resulted in injuries, while 13 juveniles were referred to the Public Prosecution as part of legal procedures.

During the period from May 31 to June 6, 2026, the General Directorate of Emergency Police conducted wide-ranging security and traffic campaigns across various governorates, issuing 1,173 traffic violations and referring 21 individuals to the competent authorities.

The campaigns also led to the arrest of 12 wanted vehicles, five individuals with expired residency permits, and nine persons without official identification documents.

Authorities further referred 15 suspects to the Anti-Narcotics Department, in addition to detaining one individual found in an abnormal condition.

Emergency police teams dealt with 144 traffic accident reports, impounded four vehicles for serious violations, and provided assistance to 959 people on the roads.

The total number of security operations carried out during the week reached 1,922, reflecting intensified enforcement efforts across the country.

Separately, the GTD reported 19,788 traffic violations between June 4 and June 7, along with 2,775 traffic reports filed during the same period.

Authorities also placed 23 individuals in precautionary detention for serious traffic offences and arrested 40 wanted persons, while 76 residency law violators and 17 wanted vehicles were also seized.

In addition, six individuals without identification were apprehended, and 13 juveniles were referred to the Public Prosecution. One person in an abnormal state was also detained for legal action.

Regarding traffic accidents, 986 cases were recorded, including 178 collisions that resulted in injuries. Authorities also impounded 251 vehicles and 40 motorcycles for various violations.
