Kuwaiti arrested for promoting gambling via Snapchat

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior announced Monday evening that the Criminal Investigation Department has taken into custody a Kuwaiti citizen for allegedly promoting gambling activities through the social media platforms.

In a statement, the Ministry said the Cybercrime Department had been monitoring online content of two Snapchat accounts promoting and engaging in gambling-related activities, following which the suspect was identified and arrested, and legal procedures are now underway to refer him to the relevant authorities.

Investigations revealed that the suspect, a Kuwaiti, was using the platform to invite followers into private groups he managed.

The participants were asked to pay money to join these gambling sessions, which he falsely claimed were guaranteed to yield profits, whether through overseas gambling halls or online platforms.

The security authorities stated such actions are a clear violation of Kuwaiti law and may involve electronic fraud and deception.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to combating all forms of cybercrime and warned the public not to fall prey to such illegal activities, while at the same time urging citizens and residents to report any suspicious online behavior to help preserve public security and uphold the law.
