Kuwait Customs allows export of metal scrap to support local industry

In a move aimed at supporting national industries and streamlining procedures for local companies and factories, the General Administration of Customs has issued new export regulations for certain types of scrap metal.
Customs Director Fatima Al-Qallaf said Customs Instructions No. (30) of 2025, allows local companies and factories to export specific types of scrap, including copper, pressed aluminum, and crushed copper. This initiative has been introduced following continuous coordination with the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, reports Al-Rai daily.
Under the new guidelines, businesses must comply with a set of controls established by the Ministry such as submitting an official request in advance to obtain export approval, prove legal ownership of the scrap materials, ensuring that shipments meet all regulatory and safety requirements, and maintain full transparency throughout the export process.
The Administration emphasized that this step is part of its broader efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the local industrial sector, stimulate national exports, and ensure responsible management of natural and strategic resources.
Authorities stressed that all companies and factories wishing to export, what it called, eligible scrap must strictly adhere to the new terms, which came into effect on June 24, 2025.
The Administration has reiterated its commitment to balancing economic facilitation with the protection of public resources and regulatory integrity.
