Regional leaders urge de-escalation and dialogue amid escalating tensions

'We have no intention of developing nuclear weapons. We neither sought war, nor did we start it' -- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian

Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, in a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian Saturday evening, expressed deep concern over the impact of recent Israeli attacks on efforts to resolve the regional crisis.

He stressed that the escalation has disrupted ongoing diplomatic dialogue and obstructed initiatives aimed at de-escalation and peaceful resolution, reports Al-Rai daily.

The Crown Prince reaffirmed the Kingdom’s firm stance against the use of force to settle disputes, emphasizing that dialogue must remain the foundation for resolving regional differences.

In a separate phone conversation, the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, also spoke with President Pezeshkian, strongly condemning the Israeli strike on Iranian territory.

He described the attack as a blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a serious breach of international law and norms.

Sheikh Tamim emphasized the urgent need to reduce all forms of escalation and work toward diplomatic solutions that ensure lasting peace and regional stability.

The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, discussed the implications of the escalating situation with French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in two separate phone calls.

The conversations highlighted the importance of exercising maximum restraint and doubling diplomatic efforts to contain tensions and preserve the security and stability of the region.

In a related context, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman received a phone call from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The Turkish leader underscored the importance of prioritizing diplomacy and dialogue, returning to the negotiating table, and upholding the principles of international law as the most effective path to resolving conflicts and preventing further escalation.

These coordinated diplomatic efforts come as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s position, stating: “We have no intention of developing nuclear weapons. We neither sought war, nor did we start it.”
