IOMS honors Interior Minister for Support during International Conference on Genetics and AI

A delegation from the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS), headed by Dr. Mohammed Al-Jarallah comprising prominent members Dr. Abdullah Al-Ghunaim and Dr. Khaled Al-Madhkour, paid a visit to Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
During the meeting, the delegation presented a commemorative shield to express their deep appreciation for the outstanding support of the Ministry of Interior during the international scientific conference titled which was held under the title, ‘DNA Fingerprinting and Gene Editing in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: An Islamic Perspective.’
The conference, held in Kuwait under the patronage of His Highness the Amir, brought together leading scholars, jurists, and specialists from over 20 countries, offering a global platform to discuss emerging ethical and legal issues surrounding biotechnology and artificial intelligence from an Islamic viewpoint.
Dr. Al-Jarallah praised the Ministry of Interior for its instrumental role in ensuring the success of the conference from day one. He specifically highlighted the participation of a distinguished group of students and officers from the Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences, noting that their attendance and engagement in the scientific sessions contributed significantly to the depth of discussion.
Moreover, the conference benefited from the presence and active involvement of senior officials from several Interior Ministry departments, including the Criminal Evidences Department, the General Department of Investigations, the General Department of Legal Affairs, and the Saad Al-Abdullah Academy itself.
The event featured the presentation of more than 50 scientific papers, exploring the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence in genetic fingerprinting and gene editing. Among the distinguished participants were scholars from the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, representatives of Al-Azhar University, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, and former ministers of religious affairs from Jordan and Tunisia, as well as academics from Cairo University and other prestigious institutions. Their presence added significant scholarly and jurisprudential weight to the discussions.
Dr. Al-Jarallah said the cooperation between Kuwait’s scientific and security institutions serves as an exemplary model of integration, reflecting a high level of official awareness and responsibility in addressing the complex ethical and legal implications of technological advancements.
