Two arrested for tampering with odometers at car repair shop

All devices used for manipulating the instrument used for measuring the distance traveled by a vehicle were seizedand the garage was closed by the Ministry of Commerceand Industry.

The General Directorate of Traffic of the Ministry of Interior has arrested two individuals working at a car repair shop for tampering with vehicle odometers for money, according to Q8-Press.

The department reported that on August 29, a garage in the Irrigation area was monitored for manipulating odometers of used vehicles by the Technical Inspection Department’s Workshop Monitoring Division. A technical report was filed with the International Metrology Department of the Technical Inspection Department, documenting all relevant information. The garage’s location and the individuals involved were closely monitored.

“The General Directorate of Criminal Investigations – Department of Combating Counterfeiting and Forgery Crimes was contacted to arrest individuals caught in the act at the site mentioned in the report,” it added.

The report also noted that two people were arrested, and all devices used for manipulating odometers were seized. The individuals were transferred to the Department of Combating Counterfeiting and Forgery Crimes, and the garage was closed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The reports pointed out that “two people were arrested and therefore all special devices were sourced in the manipulation of the metres, as well as the people were transferred by the Department of Combatting Counterfeiting and Counterfeiting Crimes, and the garage was closed by the Ministry of Commerce.”
