Cairo Street project nears 92.25% completion milestone: Al-Mashaan

• Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, the Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, heard about obstacles hindering Cairo Street Development Project, now in final stages after overcoming hurdles.

Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, the Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, visited the Cairo Street Development Project to review the latest progress. The project has reached a completion stage of 92.25%, with remarkable achievements.

During her tour, Dr. Al-Mashaan assessed the progress of work on the second and third ring roads, which are over 97% complete. Coordination is underway to finalize the opening works.

The minister said in a press statement during the tour, “We are committed to providing excellent infrastructure that is compatible with the country’s growing needs.” She added, “The completion of 92% of the Cairo Street development project represents a bright spot in our efforts towards achieving this goal.”

Al-Mashaan listened to a detailed explanation of the obstacles that had previously affected all stages of the project’s progress, represented by the migration of existing services that had been in place for more than fifty years. The primary obstacles have been resolved, enabling the project to enter its final stages, with Tunnel No. 2 being the last in this phase. The aim is to open it to traffic as soon as possible.

The minister praised the efforts and hard work of the personnel of the General Authority for Roads and Land Transport, noting their dedication to achieving the required quality, which she observed in the project.

She also commended the contractor for employing the latest technologies and modern equipment in the asphalt laying work of the project, aiming to meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency for the road.

Dr. Al-Mashaan concluded by stressing, “The final stages of the project are progressing according to the specified schedule, and we will continue working to ensure that completion and opening occur on the expected date, benefiting all citizens.”

The project comprises an 11 kilometer road network, including three tunnels, five vehicle bridges, a bypass bridge, five service bridges, seven pedestrian bridges, water, rain, and sewage networks, telephone connectivity, street lighting, traffic control systems, signals, and associated services, along with road beautification works.

The General Authority for Roads and Land Transport opened the initial phase of the project on May 26, 2023, featuring Tunnel No. 1, three vehicle bridges, and a bypass bridge linking Al-Shaab and Hawalli regions. Tunnel No. 3 between Al-Dasma and Al-Mansouriya regions was also opened on May 23, this year.
