Kuwait’s ‘Young Ambassador’ initiative ends on a high note

• The ‘Young Ambassador’ initiative was designed to nurture leadership qualities, bolster confidence, and foster collaborative efforts among participants to advocate for climate action and climate justice.

After five months of empowering young minds with firsthand experience in climate diplomacy, Kuwait’s esteemed “Young Ambassador” initiative has successfully concluded.

Launched with joint efforts from the embassies of Canada and the United Kingdom, along with the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, this program aimed to equip high school students aged 15 to 18 with essential skills and knowledge to promote climate action in Kuwait and beyond.

The diversified program, now in its second season, selected 30 young ambassadors with more than ten different nationalities to participate in its enriching activities.

The Young Ambassador initiative was designed to nurture leadership qualities, bolster confidence, and foster collaborative efforts among participants to advocate for climate action and climate justice.

Throughout the program, students engaged in monthly learning activities covering various climate-related themes such as climate negotiations, ecosystem protection, crisis response, and climate-related communication.

Since its official launch on United Nations Day, October 24, 2023, the program has provided a platform for young leaders to enhance their understanding of diplomatic processes while building the necessary networks to influence climate policies.

Through mentoring sessions with host organizations, additional networking opportunities, and engaging learning activities, each Young Ambassador was equipped with the tools to contribute meaningfully towards the realization of Sustainable Development Goal 13 on climate action.

The closing ceremony of the ‘Young Ambassador Program’ was marked by a series of enriching activities that encapsulated the essence of the initiative. The Young Ambassadors presented their vision on how to address sustainability in the workplace and on a national level. They also performed a short play that showcased their deeper understanding of climate diplomacy and its real-world implications.

The Young Ambassador Program brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic missions from various countries and international organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, UNDP, IOM, UNHCR, UN Habitat, WHO, UNICEF, and many others.
