Kuwait launches first Educational Excellence Award with KD 54,000 in prizes

New national initiative to recognize outstanding students, teachers and school leaders across six educational districts

The Ministry of Education has announced the launch of the first Kuwait Award for Educational Excellence, introducing a nationwide initiative to recognize outstanding students, teachers and school administrators, with a total of 54 winners set to receive financial rewards for their achievements.

The award, announced on Wednesday, reflects the ministry’s commitment to nurturing national talent, encouraging innovation and strengthening educational quality as Kuwait advances its ambitions of building a world-class education system aligned with sustainable development goals.

Minister of Education Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabai has issued a ministerial decision outlining the award’s eligibility requirements, categories, evaluation procedures and financial rewards, with the ministry emphasizing transparency, objectivity and equal opportunities in selecting recipients.

The award comprises three categories Outstanding Learner, Outstanding Teacher and Outstanding School Administration covering government schools, religious education and special education across Kuwait’s six educational districts.

Under the initiative, 18 outstanding students will each receive KD 1,000, while 12 distinguished teachers will each receive KD 3,000. The school administration category will recognize 24 recipients, comprising six principals and 18 assistant principals, with principals receiving KD 2,000 and each assistant principal receiving KD 1,000.

The total financial rewards amount to KD 54,000, underscoring the ministry’s effort to make educational excellence a tangible national priority.

Recognizing achievement at every level

The Outstanding Learner category covers primary, intermediate and secondary education, with three winners selected from each educational district. Applicants must be Kuwaiti citizens with an outstanding behavioral record and no school disciplinary penalties or decisions against them.

Candidates must also have achieved an average of at least 95 percent in their academic subjects over the three academic years preceding their nomination.

The Outstanding Teacher category is open to Kuwaiti educators actively employed by the ministry at the time of application. Candidates must have received an actual performance evaluation rated excellent, meet the minimum service requirements specified in the executive regulations and satisfy the award’s other eligibility conditions.

The ministry also specified that applicants must meet requirements relating to previous participation in similar awards and disciplinary or criminal records, including submitting a recent no-conviction certificate through the Sahl application.

School leadership and institutional performance

The school administration category recognizes excellence in leadership and the wider educational environment. Each educational district will have one winning school administration, comprising a principal and three assistant principals.

Participating schools must be government institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Education and demonstrate a documented record of outstanding performance. They must provide evidence of effective educational practices, measurable improvements in student learning, strong school leadership and a supportive learning environment.

The award will also assess student care, institutional performance and compliance with the ministry’s evaluation and field-visit requirements.

Digital nominations and transparent evaluation
The ministry said nominations will be submitted electronically through a designated platform, where candidates’ official information will be retrieved automatically from ministry systems. Applicants will also upload supporting documents for the various evaluation criteria.

The ministry said the award is built around an integrated framework promoting quality, innovation, sustainability, digital transformation and effective institutional governance.

Through the initiative, the ministry aims to empower national talent, strengthen educational leadership and improve learning outcomes, while encouraging schools and educators to adopt practices that deliver lasting benefits for students and the wider education system.

The launch marks a significant step in Kuwait’s efforts to establish a culture of educational excellence, placing students, teachers and school leaders at the center of the country’s ambitions for a more innovative and future-ready education sector.
